More of the same but dirtier!

Two more people are with us now. Dan and Luke who run Designs in Air and Filthy Luker, Luke’s other stuff.

The horse we’re constructing (when I say “we” I mean mostly Joe and Alex from Mutoid Waste. Ruth and I run around offering beer and blow torch bolts off and grind what we’re told.

There’s also a wagon to contend with. The struggles with the wheels have been funny to a point but we’re VERY happy to have them sorted out.

I seared my arm a little which was the first injury I’ve had so far. I don’t plan on getting any more but that’s kind of a fantasy at this point.

Our neighbor Barry is a wood worker around the corner and has been visiting us and checking on our progress (all the guys around here are plenty intrigued with what looks like a mammoth and STRANGE project). Thankfully Barry runs a wood work shop and has offered us all the help we could want.

Our Scottie is about the coolest guy on earth and is hosting all of the mayhem and all of us with such panache I can’t compare him to anyone. Seeing that we leave on Sunday we couldn’t get everything done without the help of all the people involved and having a nice place to stay and work is something we’re very lucky to have.

Day 1 and 2 Petaluma CA – Buildup to Burning Man

I arrived yesterday after a long journey to Petaluma CA.

The flight was mellow considering there was a mother with her 2 and a half year old child sitting next to me. When they sat next to me I refused to think bad thoughts and the child ended up being REALLY good, thanks to her mellow mom.

United Airlines sucks but when the flights are cheap one really can’t complain.

Sign Language and Horror Films

In a fit of restlessness and lack of planning anything productive to do on my night off, I found myself watching bits and pieces of a film called “Hostel: Part II”. Late at night around 1 or 2am in the morning some channels will have someone doing sign language in the corner. I don’t think they “cast” for the part, they just find someone who signs expressively and quickly (as far as I can tell).

I think it was the most surreal thing to see a slightly plump middle aged woman signing “No!!! No!!! Oh God, don’t kill me!!! AAArrrhhh AACCKKK!”

The film itself was pornography for a 13 year old boy or 45 year old man. Boobies, blood, virgins, cannibalism, middle aged guys wielding power tools in front of a captive corseted blonde teen were abundant. I felt numb to the images and pondered again, how money is spent on trivial things (especially after viewing “Sicko” earlier that evening).
